Malta

Malta is a southern European country that consits of an archipielago situated in the Mediterranean. It is one of Europe´s smallest countries and one of the most densely populated ones. Its capital is la Valletta and the largest city is Birkirkara. Maltese is the national language and a co-official language , alongside English.

English is spoken in Malta because in 1814, as part of The Treaty of Paris, Malta officially became a part of the British Empire and was used as a very important commerce point due to its position half-way between the Strait of Gibraltar and the Suez Canal.

Malta is known for its world heritage sites most prominently the Megalithic temples which are the oldest free-standing structures in Europe.
